There are different ways that people retain knowledge. While I am a note taker, you might learn best by hands on work, and others only need to listen to remember. The Lord has given me a passion for helping people understand Biblical concepts in unique ways. Most people have at least a vague knowledge of sports. They might not know all the rules, or even have played the game before, but most people have an idea of how at least one sport works. Over the past 20 years of teaching children and youth in different ministries of my local church, I have seen that information tends to soak in a person enjoys the topic, and when it is centered around something that they already comprehend.
This 30-day devotional takes the common verbiage used in different sports as a metaphor for our daily walk with God. I thought, if I can take the idioms of the sports world and metaphorically change them to be Gospel centered, maybe this would help the truth to be spread. Each day there will be a scripture verse and a daily challenge that goes along with a sports phrase and is intended to engage and inspire people to apply what they learned to regular life.
This devotional is titled "A Whole New Ball Game" for obvious reasons. In keeping with the sports theme, the term " A Whole New Ball Game" is used when the game isn't over yet, there is still time to come back and start anew. This is similar to what happens when we accept Jesus as our Savior. We are no longer the same as we used to be. We are a new creation. Jesus is changing us to be more like Himself and He has already won the victory!
