DAY 5 - PROTECTED
When you give your life to Christ and accepted Him as your Savior, you become His. You are His beloved and He is your God. Merciful and Graceful is He who saves us, but in this chapter, we are going to concentrate on how we are protected by Him.
There are so many examples of God’s protection of His people in the Word of God. But let’s focus on the story of Rahab and how God’s works for the good of those who love Him.
Read Joshua 2:1-15.
The Israelites were camped outside the walls of Jericho, trying to find a way to invade on their way to the Promised Land. Their leader, Joshua sent two men to be spies and search out the weaknesses of the city walls. They came to the house of a prostitute named Rahab. She gave them a place to stay. The king of Jericho received word that the spies were at Rahab’s house and he sent his guards to get them.
At this point. Rahab had a choice, obey the king or step out on faith in the Lord, and protect the men from certain death. She chose to hide them and send the guards in a different direction searching for them. She had heard about the Israelites, and all the miracles that God had done through Moses. She had a yearning to know Him and she realized that God was going to allow the Israelites to take over Jericho. Later, she asked the men to spare her and her family when they returned to take over Jericho, because she had saved their lives.
“But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho—and she lives among the Israelites to this day.” Joshua 6:25
On the day of the battle, when Israel conquered Jericho and the walls fell, everyone in the city was destroyed except for Rahab and her family. They were saved, and then made their new home with the Israelites and the One True God became Her God.
God knew of Rahab's desire to know Him. It was not by accident that the two spies came to her door. God had a plan to protect the spies as well as Rahab and her family. She was chosen and protected by the Lord, no matter her sin, and she was forever transformed by the changing that God did within her.
Here are some biblical examples of when God protected His people and what He protected them from:
Daniel 6:22 Daniel was protected from LIONS when God shut their mouths so that they could not bite Daniel.
1 Samuel 17:4 David was protected from GOLIATH. Goliath was far stronger than David, but God was on his side.
Genesis 37:26-27 Joseph was protected from HIS BROTHERS. Joseph was thought to be dead, but God had a plan and protected Joseph's life.
Exodus 2:3 Moses was protected from DEATH when the king decreed that all baby Hebrew boys be put to death.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
As we end this chapter of WHO YOU ARE, I want you to know that even if you don’t believe it of yourself, or no one else every says it to you, you can believe it because God says it is true. You are who He says you are - His child- and He WILL protect those who are His.
Heavenly Father, we come to you today humbled by your power and love for us. We thank You that we never have to fear because you are always near. We ask that you help us to remember in times of uncertainty, that You are our strength and our protector and that You always keep your promises. Amen.
"FOR HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU TO GUARD YOU IN ALL YOUR WAYS."
PSALM 91:11 (NIV)
